This is what gaming is about...,
by Marcus A. Sasiadek, 2008-11-24

As someone who grew up playing Space Invaders, I have to say that most of the console games out today are terrible. I've been trying to get back into gaming and I haven't had too much luck. I find games like Resistance and GTA 4, boring and repetitive, involving very little thought to actual game play.

Armored Core for Answer is fun. It's not boring and it certainly doesn't feel repetitive. It takes a little bit of a learning curve, but anyone who has watched Robotech or played Infocom's Battletech or Mech Warrior 3 can pick it up quickly.

The missions are fun because:

1) You're a giant robot
2) There's lot's of mission strategy, from equipping your NEXT, to actual game play.

Many reviews complain that the graphics aren't that great. Graphics should always be secondary to game play. And Armored Core is all about game play.

It's really sad that there are few good strategy games for the console machines. But Armored Core for Answer is an overlooked rare gem for those willing to give it a try.

Big giant fighting robots!,

I'm definitely more of a casual gamer but love fighting robot games. And this is my first Armored Core title. The gameplay is fun but definitely a bit challenging for a newbie player. There are a lot of controls and options that you've got to learn about. The controls are a little bit overwhelming but grow on you. Not only that but you can completely customize them to your liking. Not to mention you can completely customize your mech. I found that I was spending a lot of time playing around with the mech and not shooting things.

Missions even on the basic levels I found a bit challenging. Partially because I'm new to the controls and the game. Partially because some things are coming at you really fast and if you don't jet boost to the sides a lot, you're going to take a shot from a huge cannon. Definitely fun but a challenge as I got to later levels. The robots are huge and you get to blow up some really huge weapons platforms. I'm not sure that this game is for everyone however. While it's fun, it's definitely for someone who wants to pilot a mech and dodge a whole lot of incoming fire blowing up stuff at the same time.

WOW,

First of all this is not going to be an in depth review. OK, I never liked any of the other armored core series. There were too many buttons to remember. However I loved this one. You can configure what each button does as well as what each thumb stick does with the key assign option. When you start the game you have 4 companies to choose from. The one you pick decides your starting NEXT(Mech). Within these 4 companies are 42 missions. When you start with your company you are presented 3 missions (after you complete the basic mission). From what I have seen sometimes when you finish a mission you lose the chance to play the other missions. Meaning you would have to go back and play through in order to beat those levels. NEXTs can be customized with paint jobs, weapons, stabilizers, etc. Basically there is a lot of customization options in here for the units. Almost everything in the game can be destroyed and the controls work really well, very fluid. AI can be very hard at times but that is in the later levels where they expect you to be better. Besides doing missions you can also climb the arena ladder to become the No. 1 NEXT pilot which grants you money/NEXT blueprints to make an exact copy of the opponent you defeated. I haven't tried the online matches yet, however, there is 2 player online co-op. To play certain levels in co-op either you or your buddy has to have completed it already. Also, there is at least one level that I know of that you can't play in co-op (I think its because its story related). In conclusion, this is a great game. When I first got it I played for 4 hours straight. Really fun and addicting.

not bad,

i haven't really gotten into gaming hardcore for a while, but my buddy brought this over and i'm totally addicted now.

the boss battles are amazing. one review i've read called them "epic" and i think that about sums it up. also the weaponry, graphics and the online play are all very impressive... there thats my review.
