Ideal for a Pre-Schooler,
by Karin S. Hudson, 2009-01-03
We bought "Safari Rescue" for our son who turned 3 just three days prior to us giving it to him on Christmas. He instantly took to the game and was able to play with a small amount of verbal assistance. We like this game for him because it has simple controls and allows for him a sense of accomplishment. This is the first game that we have seen that does not allow the player to fail; perfect for a pre-schooler.
One review says it is not educational; we would say it is no less educational than the TV show. The game, in addition to the use of periodic Spanish, introduces the player to different animals, foods, following directions, and forces them to choice the right `tool' for the adventure.
We highly recommend this game!!
Kiddo is totally entertained!,

Our daughter will be three in a couple months, and she LOVES this game. No, it's not the most educational, and older kids will probably breeze through it, but this is the ONLY game I've come across that is good for preschool age kids (and younger). She has always been a little jealous when we play games that are too advanced for her, so it's a huge boost for her to have a game that is special and just her speed! She's constantly "teaching" us how to pass certain obstacles. Also, you can't "die" or "lose" in this game....so there are no mistakes...which helps build her confidence and keeps her from getting frustrated. It's a well-made and well-thought-out game for young kids. Well done!
Great first video game!,

I bought this game for my 4 yo and he loves it. I wanted to get a game he could play on our new Wii system. It is very good as far as introducing kids to the interaction required for the Wii. I am always there helping him with it. The little icons on what to do, help too. Sometimes, I have to remind him to go back to that tree or bush. He just loves it. He also has the Leapster L-Max, so he is semi familiar with video games. I highly recommend that too.
Great game for 1st timers,

We got the wii for our 4.5 year old twin boys and this game was great for them. It really taught them the basics of the game--climbing, jumping, finding objects, etc. This game only uses the wii remote, hold it sideways and use the #2 button for some functions--not complicated like some other games we have tried. For my young children it was great that they NEVER died--can't fall off a cliff, no bad people to kill you, etc. I'm not sure if an older child would like this game, the higher levels didn't get harder, it was kind of repetitive, but for a younger child this was great. This game was even kind of educational, following on the TV show where you have to choose the correct animal and rescue item.
NOT Educational,
by Sim_Sun, 2008-11-04
I got this for my 6 year old Diego and Dora fan. She beat it in 2 hours; a grueling two hours for me because it is extremely repetitive. Players are not expected to read, count, or do any problem solving of any kind. For a safari game, it is also mysteriously lacking of any relevant information about the African safari or it's wildlife.
By far the most disappointing aspect of this is the concept. You must save the elephants that have been turned to stone by a mean magician. How does this teach our kids about responsibility, being wards of the earth, and protecting our wildlife? It was a lost opportunity to teach kids about pollution, hunting, overdevelopment, etc - as the reason why elephants need to be saved, and to take responsibility for the damage as human beings.
The only pro to this game is the encouragement of movement in various ways with the WII remote (swimming, climbing, beating a drum).
It is a side-scrolling linear walkthrough game with no challenge whatsoever. I expected more educational value from the creators of Dora the Explorer.
DO NOT BUY. There are other games with more educational value.
