Loved it!!,
by Madison L. Sodini, 2009-01-09
I bought this for my b/f for Christmas and he loved it! He had been talking about getting a webcam for his PS3 and I kept that in the back of my head. The only thing about this is that you need fairly good lighting to use/see. Other than that, this product looks really sharp on top of the t.v. Plus, you can't beat the price!
The games for it are a SHAME,

I bought it to use as a device to interact with games. Like the Wii Fit do for the Nintendo Wii. Well, what a surprise when I bought from the Playstation Store all the games available for it. Those games are SO BORING, and so Stupd. In one of the games you just move your finger and with that you feed some fish in Aquarium; in other game you move your finger and with that you direct some birds around the air. You get the idea of how bad the games are for this good quality camera? The camera have great resolution for video chat, but that's it. Don't plan to use it for play games, because you will fell ripped off.
Good Little Moderately Priced Web Cam,
by Ken Wilkinson, 2008-12-29
I had the PS2 Eye Toy, which worked with the PS3 (For anyone considering a low cost alternative these sell used for about $5 and are readily available).
I decided to "Upgrade" for the zoom, better low light performance, built in microphones and for the downloadable software which will only work with the "new" Eye.
The video quality is definitely better. I run a projector so the light I have is minimal. The chat feature on PS3 sets a white background and this (on a 100" screen) is more than adequate to illuminate me on my old sofa. Unfortunately most of the other stuff (Fish tank and Editing Software) need more light to work properly).
As far as the microphone - you would be far better served with a Bluetooth headset. The 4 microphone configuration works decent, but the (output) volume seems low, it should be very close to you if you don't want to annoy the person on the other end whom you are communicating with.
For what this thing sells for I do believe it to be well worth the money, just don't expect it to do magic. The PS3 video of this little device makes it seem better than it is - but that could be said for basically all advertising.
On a side note your internet connection speed and the Sony servers are of more importance for a decent video chat session that the camera and microphone themselves.
Additionally "Home" currently has no web cam support and has limited (audio) chat capabilities. It's still in Beta though...

PS3 Eye,
by P. Longworth, 2008-12-27
I bought this item when it was available through "Gold Box" deal of the day. For 20$ its ok. I was expecting more from this product. The camera is mediocre and the mic isn't much better. I have a Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 for my computer and maybe I'm a bit spoiled with it's abilities. If you want voice chad get a blue tooth head set don't depend on this. If you can stand dull colored, badly lit, ok mic then go for it. I gave it 3 stars for the price i got it at. Any more than 20$ then it would have gotten 2 stars or less.
I Don't Care For It Much,

I bought this for my PS3, and the device is a bit of a disappointment. The image is grainy and appears to reverses the actual image taken when viewed on the monitor. I bought it to work with Aquatopia on PS3, but the interface does not work very well. I felt I needed this toy as I was excited about my new PS3, but now I can say it was kind of a waste of money ( the camera and Aquatopia software both).
