Fun plus Frustrating,
by irukandji, 2009-01-09

This game has a rating of Everyone 10+. There is a reason for the 10 and up, it is kind of hard. Not too hard where the average dogged person can't beat it though.

The game has two main parts, Sonic the Hedgehog where you speed and race to get rings or beat the stage in the specified time limit. And the Werehog, which is a beat-em-up, jumping, climbing, platformer type style. You spin and rotate a planet-globe to select your destination. In each destination is a village with people you can talk to and stages, which are split Hedgehog/Werehog. The cutscenes are unskippable and occasionally you may have watch one you already have seen, depending on when you exit the game and what you accomplished. I did not find the story or cutscenes irritating, and I hated Metal Gear Solid 4's cutscenes. The voice acting was good and story helps you get into the game and they're not too long. I didn't mind them.

Honestly, I prefer the Werehog, contrary to the public opinion. The early Sonic the Hedgehog stages (the normal racing ones), were easy but didn't seem like I had much control. Just get from point A to point B and they'd show him racing through loops and such, although it does look good. Later on they get difficult, especially the last ones. I replayed the same Hedgehog stage over and over again, because I didn't know what to do. Very unfamiliar and unprepared for the type of moves they wanted me to pull off. I'd get up to a point and make one mistake and lose too many lives or in the case of the time attack, lose too much time, and have to start over. They expect you to make a 1/2 second decision as your racing along, and when its your first time, you'll mess up and have to start over. And then get to a point later in the stage and encounter the same 1/2 decision and start all over again. Once you've beaten it though it is easier.

The whole game is easy up until a point. It starts to get hard at the Chinese-type Chunun village. When things started to get difficult, I preferred Werehog stages because I had so much more control and didn't have to restart so many times. You only have 2 lives, which means if you die that much, you have to restart the whole stage. Frustrating when you suck and aren't that good yet and trying to figure out what they want you to do. However, you can get more lives by getting a certain amount of Sun & Moon medals, by completing the Hedgehog & Werehog stages, and those medals will allow you to open the doors in the temples. And once you mess around with jumping around or solving the little puzzle you can get a sonic life. I unlocked 7 sonic lives towards the end of the game, they come in handy during the Werehog stages.

The big boss of the whole game was hard at first because it is unlike Werehog or Hedgehog mode. I got frustrated because it takes awhile and is broken up into 3 parts, which you will have to replay if you fail. I didn't understand what exactly to do, I had to look it up online in a walkthrough and it was much clearer. I didn't need to read much, just point me in the right direction, and I beat it much easier.

This game would be a lot easier if I had to beat it all over again, since I know what to do and how to do it. It's playable and shouldn't be rated below 3 stars.

A great, cinematic Sonic Experience,
by Bryan J. Sharland, 2009-01-08

This game certianly has its drawbacks, but just watch the amazing, epic opening cinematic (all the cutscenes in this game are gorgeous) and you'll be loving Sonic once more. If you love traditional Sonic heroism you'll love this game. And yes, the werehog stages are fun beat em ups anda nice change of pace from the ridiculously fast day stages. The music is top notch, the graphics are great, and overall, it's a fun, awesome sonic game. Trust me, once you play it, you'll see the reviews have been unneccessarily hard on this game. Though your sidekick gets annoying, the game is alot of fun and true sonic

A gift to my niece,
by Lola, 2009-01-07

I bought this game for my 8yr old niece for Christmas. I got her started on the Sonic series with the original sonic for genesis and all that have followed. She absolutely loves this game and so do I. It keeps with the overall tone of any Sonic game in that it is fast paced and there is a lot to do and explore. Enjoy!

Could Have Been Better,
by Justin Stewart, 2009-01-03

What Happened To The Good old Sonic? This Game Probly Could Have Been Better, And The Werehog Part Is Kinda Annoying. The Sonic Part Is Good But Not As Good As The Other Sonic Game's. I Thought This Game Was Going To Be Better Then The Previous Release ''Sonic The Headchog'' Which That One Wasn't That Good Also.

The Graphic's In This Game Is Good Too, But The Werehog Gameplay Is Also Kinda Frustrating. Even Though You Can Use The Gamecube Controller, It's Still Kinda Frustrating. The Sonic Gameplay Is Better Then The Werehog, So Don't Expect The Werehog Part To Be Really Fun, Cause It's Frustrating.

But Overall This Game Could Have Been Better Without The Werehog Part. This Game Is Okay.
